Thirty-three years has seen many changes at Ruthin Craft Centre, during this time Philip Hughes has supported the careers of hundreds of makers and promoted Contemporary Craft in Wales, as well as nationally and internationally. To mark his retirement in 2025, this exhibition brings together the work of a selected group of practitioners, who have exhibited at Ruthin over this period. ‘Long Playing Record’ includes pieces by some of the finest artist makers in ceramic, metal, textile, wood, glass and jewellery, from the late twentieth and early twenty first centuries.

I feel extraordinarily honoured to have been invited to contribute some work to this show. Philip has been utterly fundamental to the development of my reputation as a textile artist, and has been so supportive right from my first exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre in 2006. I owe such a debt of gratitude to him….. he will leave big shoes to fill, but I look forward to spending time with him as a friend post retirement.
