Two-end colour & weave leno @ Devon Weavers Workshop

Two-end colour & weave leno @ Devon Weavers Workshop

This workshop will introduce you to the exciting possibilities of the 2-end leno weave structure with the added interest of exploring ‘colour and weave’.

‘Leno’ is to twist warp threads around themselves as part of the weave process, allowing you to create an open, airy fabric that is still very structurally stable. This workshop will teach you how to do this as a ‘loom controlled’ process rather than finger manipulated. We will learn how to make ‘doups’ to add to our looms to twist our warp threads to achieve this exciting weave structure.

The added design possibilities of making this a ‘colour and weave’ warp will help you truly understand the leno structure and create visually dynamic woven designs. Participants will be encouraged to explore and experiment with weft yarn choices, weft colour ordering and structural possibilities to create a range of technical samples.

What to bring: Participants will be asked to bring a prepared table loom, with a minimum of 4 shafts. Warping instructions will be sent prior to the workshop. It would also be very useful to bring a raddle for measuring and making the ‘doups’. Please also bring shuttles, a notebook and pen, fabric scissors, dress makers pins, your warp yarns and a range of weft yarns of various counts and qualities.

Laura will bring: detailed handouts, a range of weft yarns for you to experiment with and some samples for you to look at.

Course Costs: £225.00
