Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, 30th anniversary commission

Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust

Earlier in 2020 I was commissioned by the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust to make an artwork to grace the front cover of their magazine to celebrate their 30th anniversary. The magazine was due to have been published in April, but was delayed thanks to the COVID-19 situation. However, I’m delighted that it was finally published in September.

The initial inspiration was taken from pearls, and their wonderful natural and dyed shades. I decided to take the palette towards blush pinks, teals and indigo - colours I knew would work well encapsulated in acrylic resin. Also for the first time ever I included pearls in this curved sculpture - it was a bit of an unknown as to whether they’d work in this context, but they worked brilliantly, and really add an interesting dimension to the work.

The photograph for the front cover was taken by Mitch Payne and is shared here courtesy of QEST and ILN Media who put together the publication. Images for the magazine article were taken by Ross Gardner.
